Since our founding in 1936, Hickam Federal Credit Union has grown to be one of the largest credit unions in Hawaii. With membership open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school on the island of Oahu, we are dedicated to serving and uplifting our community. Throughout our long and rich history, we have never wavered from our commitment that "we can make it better, together".
Hickam Federal Credit Union was officially organized on October 31, 1936 under the name of Hawaiian Air Depot Employees (No. 1733) Federal Credit Union.
January 1941 the first full-time employee, Mr. E. C. Corn, was hired to perform clerical and collection work. On December 7, 1941 Hickam Federal Credit Union became a victim of war when Treasurer P. W. Eldred was shot and killed while trying to reach the credit union. On that morning the credit union took a direct bomb hit and lost most of its loan and share records. All records had to be reconstructed and the credit union was authorized to resume business on January 11, 1942.
The name of the credit union was changed in June 1950 from Hawaiian Air Depot Employees Federal Credit Union to Hickam Federal Credit Union.
The field of membership was expanded to include all military personnel headquartered at Hickam Air Force Base immediately increasing membership from 1,040 to 1,824.
October 1959 another milestone was reached when the credit union's assets exceeded $1,000,000.
Charter By-laws amended to extend field of membership to retired U.S. Air Force Personnel in Hawaii. Full membership also extended to retired civilian employees of Hickam AFB who are members of the credit union at the time of their retirement.
Hickam FCU exceeds $10,000,000 in assets.
Hickam FCU opens its new Main Branch office located on Hickam Air Force Base across from the Base Exchange, serving 14,000 members.
Hickam FCU introduces its Exchange ATM Card that allowed members access their Share Account at over 80 locations throughout the state.
Hickam FCU exceeds $100,000,000 in assets and installed its first of many Hickam FCU owned Automated Teller Machines.
Hickam Federal Credit Union exceeds $200,000,000 in assets.
Hickam Federal Credit Union offers checkbook-balancing program and installs its enhanced audio response telephone teller system, Teller Talk, which allowed members to conduct transactions through
a touch-tone phone 24/7.
Hickam Federal Credit Union expanded ATMs on base including Bellows Air Force Station for a total of six (6) ATMs.
Hickam Federal Credit Union celebrates its 60th anniversary.
June 1997, Hickam Federal Credit Union opened the Pearlridge Branch for business.
Hickam Federal Credit Union offers Signature Guarantees to its member and participates in the @Ease program with AFFN.
Hickam Federal Credit Union amends its Charter By-laws from an employee based credit union to a community credit union and expanded its field of membership to include anyone who lived, worked, worshiped or attended school in the Ewa District, Island of Oahu.
Hickam Federal Credit Union was one of the first credit unions to launch its web site www.hickamfcu.org.
Opened the Mililani Branch located in The Town Center of Mililani. Assets reach $250,000,000.
Hickam Federal Credit Union introduces 4 new products: Online Banking; Bill Payer; Money Market Account; and the VISA Debit Card.
Hickam FCU opens its fourth branch in The Marketplace at Kapolei.
Hickam Federal Credit Union moves its Pearlridge Office to a spacious modern branch located in the Pearlridge Center Uptown Mall.
Hickam Federal Credit Union takes computer system in-house.
Hickam Federal Credit Union installs 8 new surcharge-free ATMs.
Hickam FCU celebrates its 70th anniversary.
Hickam FCU partners with Aloha United Way and provides the VITA program – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
Installs 2nd HFCU ATM on the windward side at the Windward Mall Food Court totaling 23 HFCU ATMs plus a partnership with First Hawaiian Bank to allow HFCU members access to FHB ATM’s surcharge free.
Joins the CO-OP Financial Services network of Shared Branches and ATMs on March 1 that allows Hickam FCU members and other credit union members to conduct basic transactions at over 3,500 participating CO-OP Shared Branching credit unions and at over 25,000 ATMs nationwide.
Introduces Visa® eStatements for Hickam FCU Visa Credit Cards.
Expands its field of membership to include persons who live, work, worship, attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in the City and County of Honolulu
(Island of Oahu), Hawaii.
Hickam FCU celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Introduces Mobile Banking for iPhone and Android smartphones and upgrades all of its ATMs to be compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act's Accessibility Guidelines.
Partners with Banzai, an innovative online financial literacy program, that is offered free to middle school and high school students in select communities on Oahu.
Installs ATMs in the Moanalua Shopping Center and at Hawaii Central Federal

its Mililani Branch in the Town Center of Mililani with modernized teller services.
Opens the Pearl City Branch and Corporate Headquarters facility at 1260 Kuala Street in Pearl City. The Pearl City Branch is the credit union's sixth branch on the island of Oahu.
Introduces Youth & Young Adult Savings Program to serve the specific financial needs of three different age group segments.
Introduces Mobile Wallet that allows you to load the Hickam FCU Hoku CheckCard into your smartphone for easy tap and pay at millions of participating merchants.
