Hickam Air Force Base was established in 1935 and named after Lieutenant Colonel Horace Meek Hickam. He was instrumental in laying the foundation of the Air Corps training system.

Hickam Federal Credit Union was officially organized on October 31, 1936 under the name of Hawaiian Air Depot Employees (No. 1733) Federal Credit Union. |
| 1941 |
January 1941 the first full-time employee, Mr. E. C. Corn, was hired to perform clerical and collection work. On December 7, 1941 Hickam Federal Credit Union became a victim of war when Treasurer P. W. Eldred was shot and killed while trying to reach the credit union. On that morning the credit union took a direct bomb hit and lost most of its loan and share records. All records had to be reconstructed and the credit union was authorized to resume business on January 11, 1942. |

The name of the credit union was changed in June 1950 from Hawaiian Air Depot Employees Federal Credit Union to Hickam Federal Credit Union. |

The field of membership was expanded to include all military personnel headquartered at Hickam Air Force Base immediately increasing membership from 1,040 to 1,824. |
| 1959 |
October 1959 another milestone was reached when the credit union's assets exceeded $1,000,000. |
| 1966 |
Charter By-laws amended to extend field of membership to retired U.S. Air Force Personnel in Hawaii. Full membership also extended to retired civilian employees of Hickam AFB who are members of the credit union at the time of their retirement. |

Hickam FCU exceeds $10,000,000 in assets. |

Hickam Federal Credit Union exceeds $200,000,000 in assets. Hickam Federal Credit Union offers checkbook-balancing program. |
| 1996 |
Hickam Federal Credit Union expanded ATMs on base including Bellows Air Force Station for a total of six (6) ATMs. Hickam Federal Credit Union celebrates its 60th anniversary. |

June 1997, Hickam Federal Credit Union opened the Pearlridge Branch for
business. Hickam Federal Credit Union offers Signature Guarantees to its member and participates in the @Ease program with AFFN. |

Hickam Federal Credit Union changes its charter to include the Ewa District. |
| 2000 |
In 2000, Hickam Federal Credit Union opens the Mililani Branch for business. The Hickam Federal Credit Union website goes live on the world wide web. |
2001 |
Hickam Federal Credit Union introduces 4 new products: Online Banking; Bill Payer; Money Market Account; and the VISA Debit Card. |
2002 |
Hickam Federal Credit Union opens it's fourth branch located in Kapolei. |
Hickam Federal Credit Union is the 4th largest credit union in the state of Hawaii. Membership is more than 40,170 and growing. Hickam FCU has 7 ATMs on Hickam Air Force Base and 13 ATMs off base.
